Resident Evil: Caliban Cove Part 2

Things get a little more tense over in Maine! The crew arrives to Caliban Cove in this episode and is summarily greeted by a very dead body. This book has some wild visuals and Phil and Kevin are enjoying it so far! This episode is sponsored by Janero’s Recycled Crust Pizza.

00;00;00;02 - 00;00;12;17

Phil

That's what we're doing. 70, 80, slasher, like everywhere. We're in Friday, the third day, trying to get away from a bad guy with a Garfield mask. I don't like it. It's it's gotta be good, though, so I'm really excited.

00;00;14;17 - 00;00;41;16

Speaker 2

You know what else is good? What? Hey there, buddy. Welcome. To Pixelate, where we read, recap and review video game normalizations. My name is Kevin, and with me, as always, is Phil. Hello. And I'm Ted days episode of the show. We're talking about Resident Evil, Caliban Cove, part two. And we're we're having fun with this book so far.

00;00;41;26 - 00;01;02;11

Speaker 2

Yeah. First episode. You know, there was a lot of there's a lot of, like, chapters that were just, like, talking and planning and discussing laying the laying the groundwork. And then there's a big action sequence towards the end. But now we're, we're going on, and it's, it's, it's part two and, and you know, here we go. I'm excited.

00;01;02;16 - 00;01;34;13

Speaker 2

I'm excited. So we're starting tonight. We're starting with chapter five. And chapter five is told from the point of view of our would be antagonists, antagonists, Nicholas Griffiths. And this was the guy that Rebecca was basically warning everybody about. He's is an absolute banana. He's he's a bag a nuts. He is he's he's two squirrels fighting inside of a bag and nuts.

00;01;34;18 - 00;01;48;08

Speaker 2

That's all that's going on in his head. We have some really beautiful description of of this of basically him relaxing a on a Maine lighthouse, watching the sun rise.

00;01;48;08 - 00;02;02;00

Phil

Yes. It's a story. The chapter of relaxation here like this is he's not he's he's a mad scientist. But right now he's not like squirreled away, like like scribbling notes and mixing various chemicals, like he's chilling out.

00;02;02;17 - 00;02;08;22

Speaker 2

He's a mad scientist, but he's he's enjoying the gifts that nature gives Yeah.

00;02;08;24 - 00;02;12;05

Phil

He used to set aside some me time in the mornings.

00;02;12;18 - 00;02;44;20

Speaker 2

He knows to have a little moment of Zen. Absolutely. And and what could be probably the theme of zombie literature and media in general? One of his descriptions of the sun is. So he's talking about how the sun is. It's great, but. And it looks beautiful. But it's all a lie because within hours, the molten giant would beat mercilessly against the shore against half this planet.

00;02;44;20 - 00;03;13;06

Speaker 2

Its early mildness was a deception. A pretended ignorance of the seeping radiation and withering heat that would follow, but no less spectacular for the lying. It can't be blamed for a lack of self-awareness. After all, it is what it is. Which I was like, Damn, Perry, that is that is probably the best summation of how we view zombies in zombie media.

00;03;13;18 - 00;03;15;12

Phil

Oh, yeah, absolutely.

00;03;15;21 - 00;03;20;18

Speaker 2

And is her description or is Nicholas's description of what the sun is?

00;03;21;02 - 00;04;03;22

Phil

Right. It's such a strangely because. Because up until this point, we have basically stuck with our remaining stars, heroes. We've got the exposition. And as we mentioned last episode, we haven't seen zombies at all. Like we've seen a SWAT team come in and fuck their shit up, but we haven't seen zombies. And so when we finally get to our villain, it would be really easy for an author at this point to just say, OK, so we're going to have scene with a villain we just talked about and it's like the it's in this giant to filled with fluid and he taps on the tube and we get the boom moment where it's eyes open and

00;04;03;22 - 00;04;12;23

Phil

it's thrashing at the, you know, like you've seen it in every sci fi horror film. But instead we get like just chilling out with a son drinking.

00;04;12;23 - 00;04;15;12

Speaker 2

As he's drinking his coffee, watching the son.

00;04;15;15 - 00;04;21;25

Phil

Yeah. Yeah. He's having a Corona moment. Like he's. Yeah. One of the good ones. I mean, not not one.

00;04;21;25 - 00;04;24;03

Speaker 2

Of the best. Not Bakkerud terribly bad ones.

00;04;24;09 - 00;04;37;18

Phil

Yeah. It's it's it's a terribly twisted, you know, one of those old Corona commercials where, like, someone sitting on the beach their feet up and drinking a beer, and then all of a sudden you hear brains in the background, and blood just hits the camera.

00;04;39;15 - 00;04;41;09

Speaker 2

You hear wet noises.

00;04;41;10 - 00;04;43;23

Phil

Right. Yes. Yes. Tasty.

00;04;46;13 - 00;05;03;27

Speaker 2

There is actually, we were watching Stranger Things in season four, and we pretty much watch everything with the subtitles on Sure, sure. And one of the things that I was noticing is in a lot of the subtitles, there is a lot of use of the word wet and wet.

00;05;03;27 - 00;05;25;02

Phil

Li yeah. You know, some of these sometimes I'll use close captions and I'll wonder, what the fuck is that? I have to assume, like, OK, this was, you know, people with hearing issues and stuff, they know better than me what they need in the shower. It just confuses me. But every now and then you see something like that and you're like, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

00;05;25;02 - 00;05;27;22

Phil

They do what they were doing. Yeah, yeah. It's perfect.

00;05;27;28 - 00;05;30;07

Speaker 2

Squelch is wet. Li Oh, yeah.

00;05;30;10 - 00;05;39;12

Phil

Well, there's a word that squelch. Yeah, yeah. Like, like, like jello in a boot. Just absolutely mess.

00;05;41;24 - 00;05;44;08

Speaker 2

The moist boot squelched wet li.

00;05;44;08 - 00;05;48;00

Phil

Exactly. Yeah, yeah. Shoe stuck in mud. That's what squelching is.

00;05;48;05 - 00;05;57;09

Speaker 2

That's what squelching is. Yeah. Yeah. But we get a little bit more about bad doctor. I just realize these doctor Nick.

00;05;58;05 - 00;06;03;23

Phil

Oh, my God. Is Dr. Nick Oh, Jesus Christ. You're right. He's Dr. Nick.

00;06;06;02 - 00;06;07;09

Phil

Hi, everybody.

00;06;08;21 - 00;06;44;09

Speaker 2

And we get we get a little bit more insight into his plan, um, because. So basically, chapter five reveals that he has modified the T virus. He's cleaned it up, and he's made it more efficient, and he has infected everybody in Caliban Cove with this modified T virus. And what it does is it creates a, it still creates a zombie like a decaying zombie person, but they are trainable.

00;06;44;17 - 00;07;07;20

Speaker 2

Yeah, you can actually you can actually they don't they don't become like the other zombies. Which Rebecca actually breaks down in a later in a, in a meeting, what the zombies are and how they have, you know, they're, they're angry and all that stuff. That's not these zombies. These zombies are mostly docile and can be trained to do whatever.

00;07;08;09 - 00;07;24;17

Speaker 2

It's and it's introduced in an amazing scene where he's talking to three of his former scientists about what he's giving. They're all zombified and he's giving them instructions on what to do today. And one of them has his pants.

00;07;24;22 - 00;07;43;22

Phil

Yes. And they're all. Yeah. And they're all and they're all scientists. They're all genius level scientists. He in fact, it happens in the writing so casually that you I missed it. I had to go back over because he's talking about this guy. He's an asshole, but he's a genius. Asshole. So it's he's good to keep around oopsy shit, his pants.

00;07;43;22 - 00;07;46;09

Phil

And you're like, wait, what the fuck is going on?

00;07;46;09 - 00;08;16;19

Speaker 2

Let's shit his pants. And and he's like, he's able to give complex instructions to these, you know, slack jaw zombies, and they're called slack jawed. They at one point, they were like, despite looking like they are completely different people because of the way they all have slack jaws and like the dumb looks on their face, they could all be related is is the way Steve Perry writes it.

00;08;16;19 - 00;08;25;13

Speaker 2

And I thought it was kind of amazing a really good introduction to to these two this new type of zombie basically.

00;08;25;16 - 00;08;52;14

Phil

It's fantastic and they're all very open to suggestion basically he he says to the other ones he says it seems the doctor here has shit his pants again that's funny and so all the zombies including the one who should his pants start going ha ha ha ha, and at one point he's like annoyed by this. And so he looks at it because just say that you're you're your wife is a whore.

00;08;53;05 - 00;09;03;23

Phil

And the kid the zombie goes, my wife is a whore. Like immediately it's that level of just just, you know. Yes, slack jawed idiot space fly ability.

00;09;03;23 - 00;09;08;14

Speaker 2

Basically, it's like, yeah, they're they're dead and decaying, but I can tell them what to do, right.

00;09;09;02 - 00;09;20;27

Phil

Trump voters. Oh, sure. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. You get that shit oh.

00;09;22;02 - 00;09;28;11

Speaker 2

Just so you all know, Phil broke the recording doing his victory lap around.

00;09;28;11 - 00;09;31;28

Phil

That must have been what it was. I have to it. I'm going to blame myself for that one.

00;09;32;28 - 00;09;46;20

Speaker 2

It somehow. It somehow broke my input. It was such a powerful burn that my input just muted itself. It would not unmute. I don't understand. Yeah, but whatever. It's fine.

00;09;46;20 - 00;09;50;04

Phil

It makes sense. It was so damn good. It was worth it.

00;09;50;10 - 00;09;54;04

Speaker 2

It was so good. It was so good. So topical, so current and recent.

00;09;54;09 - 00;09;54;18

Phil

Oh.

00;09;55;28 - 00;10;00;10

Speaker 2

You know, going into a midterm election year.

00;10;00;21 - 00;10;03;24

Phil

Yeah, it was. It was. It was the joke the people deserved.

00;10;04;16 - 00;10;12;12

Speaker 2

It was the truth that people deserve an. Oh, yeah, let's be honest. This is not going to be a good midterms for us on the left.

00;10;12;13 - 00;10;15;26

Phil

We need, we need it. We're we're going to need these moments every chance we're going.

00;10;15;26 - 00;10;21;16

Speaker 2

To need these moments. What you need to what choice do we have other than trying.

00;10;22;18 - 00;10;24;07

Phil

To we don't have time for that, goddammit.

00;10;25;07 - 00;10;50;07

Speaker 2

Anyway, I don't have time for that anyway. Um, yeah. So, yeah, the scientists are pooping their pants. Yeah. Because they're dumb. They're they're dumb dumb. Now. And and the other thing is they talk a little bit about something. I could not read this the first five times that it came up. The tri squads.

00;10;50;07 - 00;10;51;25

Phil

The tri squads. Yeah.

00;10;52;08 - 00;11;12;03

Speaker 2

I was like, the truth squad. What's the truth squads? Oh, tri squads. Yes. And we'll find out a little bit more about what they are later. But it it's it from what I from the context clues you gather chapter five is they are zombies yeah. And they are armed and there are three of them, you assume.

00;11;12;12 - 00;11;16;01

Phil

Yes. Yeah. You yeah. At that point you're led to believe it's just a few.

00;11;16;29 - 00;11;29;19

Speaker 2

It's Yeah. Um, so they also, he also references that there's a sevens on the base. Yeah. And may sevens I believe are the hunters. Yes.

00;11;30;02 - 00;11;33;11

Phil

Yes. The hunter several times. Yeah. Yeah, the.

00;11;33;11 - 00;11;48;01

Speaker 2

Yeah. But they are not, they're just not, they're not wandering around. They are are in cages. No, but you know Chekhov's May seven, you wouldn't bring up the Emma seven unless you were going to use the Emma seven.

00;11;48;09 - 00;11;52;10

Phil

I mean, come on, come on. What choice do you have at that point.

00;11;52;27 - 00;11;56;26

Speaker 2

That's what that, that, that Russian writer was talking about. It's waste.

00;11;56;26 - 00;12;04;13

Phil

Of money. Yeah, he was, it was the it was a yeah. Yeah, it was a Chekhov. Chekhov zombie, I believe it's the.

00;12;04;17 - 00;12;21;07

Speaker 2

Yeah, you put the you put the hunter on the shelf in act one. If you're going to put it in there in act one, you got to use it in act three. And that's the otherwise. Why why is the hunter there right? Other than we can. No, no set decoration.

00;12;21;15 - 00;12;34;05

Phil

No, no, no. Everything has to have everything has to point towards the same dotted line at the end of the story. Otherwise it's unsatisfying. Yes. The killers, I'm not sure.

00;12;34;05 - 00;12;45;23

Speaker 2

I necessarily agree with Chekhov's gun principle. I think about it because it's like if there's a gun on the thing, why? Why is there unless you're going to use it and be like, I don't know, maybe the fucker likes guns, right?

00;12;45;24 - 00;12;47;02

Phil

Maybe it's pointing.

00;12;47;17 - 00;12;58;04

Speaker 2

Maybe it's pointing to like something subconscious, but I don't know. But it could be any number of things. It doesn't have to be story like doesn't have to be a literal plot elements.

00;12;58;08 - 00;13;21;03

Phil

Right. I think I think the idea in my head with those kinds of rules isn't necessarily that it can't be broken it's more or less something to get 14 year olds who are writing their first one act play and convinced that they're going to change the world with it to shut the fuck up sure. As a as a former creative writing teacher, I have to assume that as a.

00;13;21;03 - 00;13;23;18

Speaker 2

Former creative writing teacher and a former 14 year.

00;13;23;18 - 00;13;27;06

Phil

Old. Yeah. Yes. As as as a form.

00;13;27;06 - 00;13;27;25

Speaker 2

As both.

00;13;27;27 - 00;13;36;25

Phil

Most insufferable human being on the planet. Yeah, I can say that that that's going to it's going to help you. Well, it's going to check out these rules.

00;13;38;13 - 00;13;40;20

Speaker 2

So eighth graders. Not even once.

00;13;41;03 - 00;13;42;18

Phil

No, not even once.

00;13;45;06 - 00;14;09;11

Phil

But we do get we do get kind of some standard mad scientist stuff in this chapter that we get we get they like the literal he literally does the whole my creation Frankenstein kind of bit. Yeah. With these guys, even though he did just like criticize one of them for shitting his pants you still like, hey, my my creation, shoot his pants did your creation.

00;14;09;11 - 00;14;12;02

Phil

Shit, it's pants. Oh, no, you didn't. You don't have a creation.

00;14;12;02 - 00;14;16;11

Speaker 2

You don't even have a creation. You don't even have a creation that can shit its own pants.

00;14;16;11 - 00;14;19;06

Phil

Oh, shame. I do.

00;14;19;08 - 00;14;20;25

Speaker 2

What a shame.

00;14;21;28 - 00;14;23;23

Phil

So, yeah, I think that's a little bit about that.

00;14;24;16 - 00;14;57;21

Speaker 2

That's a little bit about that. And did we is this in this chapter? Does he um, does he really get down to what is his grand plan is yet or or has he, has he. Oh, yes. Yes, yes. OK, so basically his idea is he is he has made the tea virus. He's made it airborne. Yes. And he is going to release it and basically turn the whole world into Zambonis.

00;14;58;00 - 00;15;00;06

Phil

Right. He's going to make it rich.

00;15;01;05 - 00;15;08;17

Speaker 2

Because he wants the world to be at peace. And the only way to be at peace is to turn everybody into a zombie.

00;15;08;22 - 00;15;14;08

Phil

Right. He's he's he's got he's a Thanos villain. He's right.

00;15;14;08 - 00;15;37;19

Speaker 2

Thanos, sing this this whole thing up. But he's not even Dennis at least had a line for a will about fit. Then it's just 50%. He just wants a clean 50 off the top. That's all he aveeno swan at ease. This guy is 100% this guy wants it did tell Ted to clear it all out. Thanos would have issues with this guy.

00;15;37;22 - 00;15;42;26

Phil

I think than us would probably yeah. He'd be like, I admire your scope.

00;15;43;20 - 00;15;46;04

Speaker 2

I admire the scope and and your effort.

00;15;46;10 - 00;15;46;29

Phil

Yes.

00;15;46;29 - 00;15;51;05

Speaker 2

But I think there's a ways, better ways to go about this precisely.

00;15;51;05 - 00;15;51;19

Phil

Yes.

00;15;53;14 - 00;15;53;25

Speaker 2

Yeah.

00;15;54;11 - 00;15;55;02

Phil

Yeah. So and.

00;15;55;02 - 00;15;55;10

Speaker 2

Then.

00;15;55;18 - 00;15;56;10

Phil

That's our villain.

00;15;57;02 - 00;16;00;28

Speaker 2

That's our villain. Doctor Nick uh, nick.

00;16;00;28 - 00;16;02;15

Phil

Nick Griffiths. Nick.

00;16;05;01 - 00;16;07;09

Phil

I can't believe I didn't pick up on that.

00;16;07;24 - 00;16;18;00

Speaker 2

I literally just picked up on it as I was saying it, as I was about to say. Doctor Nicholas and and that's that just popped right in there. So starting with.

00;16;18;12 - 00;16;18;29

Phil

Which.

00;16;21;14 - 00;16;38;17

Speaker 2

Chapter six, we get Karen Driver, she's a new point of view character and she is a star's agent and she is very she's very serious. She's a very serious star star age.

00;16;38;20 - 00;16;39;16

Phil

And she sure.

00;16;39;16 - 00;16;48;03

Speaker 2

Is. She's a forensics expert and she keeps her house, as Rebecca puts it, into skeptically clean.

00;16;48;07 - 00;16;53;09

Phil

Yeah. Yeah. She's very much a just just the facts ma'am kind of thing.

00;16;53;27 - 00;17;00;19

Speaker 2

And I assume that she is part of the main stars team. It seems like.

00;17;00;23 - 00;17;06;03

Phil

It should be. I mean, these are the these are the. Yeah, the the the the the main. I thought you meant.

00;17;06;09 - 00;17;07;11

Speaker 2

The Exeter Mary.

00;17;08;00 - 00;17;08;14

Phil

No.

00;17;08;24 - 00;17;11;23

Speaker 2

Being as in maney as in Manus.

00;17;11;26 - 00;17;13;06

Phil

Manus. Yeah, yeah.

00;17;13;11 - 00;17;15;15

Speaker 2

Out there catching that lobster.

00;17;15;19 - 00;17;30;13

Phil

Yeah. We're going to fight some zombies. And we're gonna make sure they never darken the towers of New England again. That is. That is bad. That is bad. But it's never stopped me.

00;17;30;16 - 00;17;31;05

Speaker 2

It's not that.

00;17;31;05 - 00;17;31;16

Phil

Bad.

00;17;33;02 - 00;17;35;02

Speaker 2

Yeah, it's not that bad.

00;17;35;02 - 00;17;36;26

Phil

It's nothing. All right, thank you. I appreciate it, but.

00;17;37;00 - 00;17;38;09

Speaker 2

I think you're OK.

00;17;38;15 - 00;17;38;27

Phil

Thank you.

00;17;41;05 - 00;17;55;10

Speaker 2

So basically, they're having a meeting. They're meeting at Karen's house to go over all the all the details and plans and see Perry right in the three straps right in there. This is probably the most.

00;17;55;16 - 00;17;57;18

Phil

Just talking about this, like.

00;17;58;20 - 00;18;05;05

Speaker 2

Just just right in there. Steve Lopez, computer expert marksman.

00;18;05;18 - 00;18;36;23

Phil

Hot, hot, hot. And you know what? Let's give it to Steve Perry. See, t like, we've we've I was thinking about this today, and it's like we we've we've criticized books we've read in the past where we get a lot of male gays shit and everything like that here. And I and I while reading this, I'm just laughing I'm like, you know it's this 18 year old girl's perspective of this Hantz what is he.

00;18;36;23 - 00;18;38;16

Phil

He's 21 he's their marksman.

00;18;38;24 - 00;18;41;00

Speaker 2

He's like 20 or 22 or something like that.

00;18;41;06 - 00;18;51;28

Phil

The God damn Sonia Blades shit for Mortal Kombat all over again the great marksman at 22. OK, cool. I'm sure they're there, but it's, it's.

00;18;52;22 - 00;18;54;02

Speaker 2

It's all right. And we don't.

00;18;54;02 - 00;19;16;02

Phil

Care, right? I don't care, I don't care. But it's very well it's not, it's not as threatening is it. It's, it just doesn't come off as low as some of that stuff does. Yeah. You do think you're like an eight year 18 year old Crowe probably would be like oh yeah. This guy's not like yeah, yeah. It's not, it's not done in kind of a gross Gacy sort of way.

00;19;16;19 - 00;19;33;16

Speaker 2

Yeah. So here's the, here's the paragraph, OK? Yeah. His gaze was friendly and direct, and in spite of the circumstances, Rebecca found herself wishing that she had at least run a brush through her hair before coming out of the bathroom. Simply put, he was hot.

00;19;34;00 - 00;19;53;19

Phil

Yes. And you know, you know what? Now that you read it back, I think I know what it is. I think I know what it is. At no point does she talk about, like, his crystal blue eyes or his ebony colored hair that fellow wears no it's just he's direct. He's he's got a like they give him, like, the aw shucks smile earlier at some.

00;19;53;20 - 00;20;05;20

Phil

Yeah. In the in the chapter. And it's just he's just he's a nice guy. It isn't like any. And he's got a dick hanging down to his knees because that's not generally how we're going to write this shit.

00;20;05;27 - 00;20;15;22

Speaker 2

Not generally it's like, you know, Milton Berle balls the size of Milton Barrels.

00;20;15;22 - 00;20;21;10

Phil

Yeah. Oh, my God. They are pulsating against his take stars uniform. My God.

00;20;21;21 - 00;20;40;15

Speaker 2

Is. Anyway, and she goes, she goes. It was like the man who played mister is like a short story. The man who played Mr. Belvedere once sat on his balls and they had to stop filming for two days. Those must have been some pretty big balls. That's how big this guy's balls were.

00;20;40;22 - 00;20;51;02

Phil

Yes, it's a lot of footnotes in this Resident Evil book and all you don't like it? No, it's kind of better. I don't know. I don't know.

00;20;51;06 - 00;20;53;16

Speaker 2

I don't mind it. I'm just saying, not.

00;20;53;16 - 00;20;55;05

Phil

Upset about it. I don't know. That's not.

00;20;55;05 - 00;20;55;28

Speaker 2

A criticism.

00;20;55;29 - 00;21;14;28

Phil

No, that was just an observation. Just observing. Yeah. So so, yeah, we get we get a look at this new team. We've got a whole new team of people to obliterate with zombies. And.

00;21;15;03 - 00;21;24;15

Speaker 2

Oh, and then there's there's and then there's the other guy, John. Oh, yeah. Who is, who is, who is just as the big old slab of beef.

00;21;24;21 - 00;21;28;27

Phil

Oh, he's our he's our Barry for this.

00;21;28;28 - 00;21;37;01

Speaker 2

He's our Barry. Yes, he is. BlackBerry. Yeah. Basically six foot frame bulging with tightly packed muscle.

00;21;37;07 - 00;21;38;18

Phil

Yeah. You bring.

00;21;38;29 - 00;21;39;05

Speaker 2

That.

00;21;39;05 - 00;21;43;19

Phil

Herring up like he has a desert eagle or something like some sort of like. Yeah, yeah.

00;21;43;20 - 00;21;49;02

Speaker 2

He's like, that's Barry's gun. You can't use that gun. Come on, come on.

00;21;49;29 - 00;21;52;04

Phil

And then, of course, David, we've got David there.

00;21;52;28 - 00;21;58;00

Speaker 2

David, our British British man, David I almost forgot David was British.

00;21;58;00 - 00;21;59;05

Phil

Standard issue, Brit.

00;21;59;25 - 00;22;02;29

Speaker 2

Standard issue Brit. He's a little sickly looking story.

00;22;03;03 - 00;22;11;15

Phil

Store bought Brit low in protein but but somehow very stiff and firm to the touch of.

00;22;14;29 - 00;22;19;03

Speaker 2

You really don't want to start getting into a conversation about the monarchy with him.

00;22;19;03 - 00;22;20;01

Phil

No, please don't.

00;22;20;07 - 00;22;25;04

Speaker 2

Please don't. They could get to a really weird place and it's nobody really wants to hear Kevin.

00;22;25;04 - 00;22;27;04

Phil

It's the queen's jubilee. Let's have some respect.

00;22;27;21 - 00;22;32;18

Speaker 2

And have some respect and decorum for the Queen's Jubilee.

00;22;32;18 - 00;22;35;20

Phil

For the ancient bloodline that rules that little island.

00;22;35;22 - 00;22;49;14

Speaker 2

For the ancient bloodline that rules that tiny little island. It's just just not ancient as ancient as in the bloodline is old. And also the blood inside the genes are old.

00;22;49;18 - 00;22;52;06

Phil

Yeah, the the blood inside the monarch itself.

00;22;52;18 - 00;23;03;25

Speaker 2

I'm sorry, UK fans we are talking about. We love you. Just if you like the queen of monarchs. Listen, if you like your queen you can keep your queen. Yeah.

00;23;05;25 - 00;23;09;03

Speaker 2

That the. Yes, that was an Obama reference. I was about.

00;23;09;03 - 00;23;12;18

Phil

To say that. Health care reference. Yes. So keep your queen.

00;23;13;06 - 00;23;22;16

Speaker 2

So keep your queen if you don't like your queen, then I don't know. Start start figuring out what Guy Fox did and, you know.

00;23;22;28 - 00;23;48;15

Phil

Just figure it out. It's there. There are surprisingly few steps, as it turns out. We're going to go oh, gosh, David. We get David. Kind of like he's giving everybody a you know, the mission briefing, essentially telling us the rundown.

00;23;49;04 - 00;23;50;24

Speaker 2

Here's what we want to do.

00;23;53;01 - 00;24;11;17

Speaker 2

Here's where it is. Here's how we want to approach all that stuff. Right. This is all very important stuff. Like this is like like if you read the first book where they had like a full chapter on how they were going to do their shit you kind of know what's got me.

00;24;12;10 - 00;24;16;12

Phil

You know? Yeah. It's not going to be a big surprise.

00;24;16;12 - 00;24;42;14

Speaker 2

Let's it's not going to be a big surprise. But yeah, this chapter is dedicated to a how are we going to do it? And B, what are we up against? And Rebecca basically gives them the breakdown of like, what what are these zambonis what are they? What do they look like? How do they act? Right. One of the things that she doesn't quite get into, which is funny because later she starts having to shout it at them is is how to kill them.

00;24;42;20 - 00;24;43;05

Speaker 2

Oh yeah.

00;24;43;11 - 00;24;44;12

Phil

Oh yeah. It's ridic.

00;24;44;14 - 00;24;55;18

Speaker 2

That's a pretty it's a pretty big oversight. And she starts she starts having to, to kind of loudly communicate with that that to them later.

00;24;55;25 - 00;25;04;25

Phil

So she has a shout above everything to, to tell them what's going on. And it's like, I feel like we covered this. I don't know.

00;25;04;25 - 00;25;14;10

Speaker 2

But yeah, I feel like that should have been like one of the first things that you covered is that if you run into one of these things, you get to shoot them in the head.

00;25;14;11 - 00;25;15;02

Phil

Shoot them in the head.

00;25;15;14 - 00;25;41;27

Speaker 2

To that was that Tom Savini in, in the Day of the Dead remake. I just remember there's a, there's that moment where they're watching Tom Savini on a TV in the mall, and he he's just shouting at the camera and he's like, he's like a cop. He's playing like a sheriff or something like that. He's like, listen, you got to shoot him in this one.

00;25;41;27 - 00;25;43;03

Phil

It's so fucking long.

00;25;43;18 - 00;25;49;26

Speaker 2

Oh, God. I try not to expose myself to what's his what's his face too much.

00;25;50;09 - 00;25;50;16

Phil

Oh.

00;25;53;06 - 00;25;55;18

Speaker 2

The director. Yeah. You know.

00;25;55;18 - 00;25;57;20

Phil

One that we both forced out of our head. Apparently.

00;25;58;00 - 00;26;02;20

Speaker 2

We, we we just hit the eject button on hold on.

00;26;04;25 - 00;26;14;14

Phil

Are you talking about la la la la la come here. Well, Zack Snyder.

00;26;15;04 - 00;26;16;04

Speaker 2

Zack Snyder.

00;26;16;04 - 00;26;30;12

Phil

Zack Snyder. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I I'm. I'm not is down on his Watchmen movie, as a lot of people are, but mostly I. I move on, so.

00;26;30;20 - 00;26;50;07

Speaker 2

Yeah, I move on from from him. So. So Rebecca breaks down like also that the Why the zombies act, the way they do that once you're introduced to this virus, your body starts decaying, your brain is shooting the wrong signals at the wrong times.

00;26;52;07 - 00;27;12;10

Speaker 2

Inciting violence and people who are exposed to it and all that, all that fun stuff. She actually does a really good scientific breakdown of it. Of like she she does she does a really good job of saying it's not the undead. There are people who have been exposed to a very shitty virus and there's no coming back from it.

00;27;12;18 - 00;27;36;17

Speaker 2

Like, that's, that's actually it's I was a gay I was like, I'm going to give you a lot of credit here because she does it and she wrote it in such a way that's like, yeah, it's like they're victims of a virus. It's not like they're not like these undead monsters rising from the grave. They're literally just it's just the effects of the virus turns off pain receptors and your body starts falling apart.

00;27;36;25 - 00;27;43;24

Phil

We did this in the last episode. But it's I can't stop thinking about, like, Jurassic Park, like the book.

00;27;43;27 - 00;27;46;07

Speaker 2

Yes. We're very frightened.

00;27;46;07 - 00;28;14;17

Phil

The very pregnant like fit in some really solid, not not gobbledygook like all scientific basis for what we're talking about here. You know, it's it's really impressive. We've we've we've dealt with a lot of books in this show where the science could be just brushed off as fantasy and just make up some crazy supernatural thing that explains all this shit.

00;28;14;17 - 00;28;24;23

Phil

And it's kind of science fiction, but we're actually getting kind of a medical full of virologists point of view on on how this all works.

00;28;24;23 - 00;28;31;11

Speaker 2

It's more science than it's it's very much science and not supernatural.

00;28;31;17 - 00;28;34;20

Phil

It's more science than the actual Resident Evil Games.

00;28;35;01 - 00;28;55;10

Speaker 2

Oh, yeah. Yeah. It's it's a lot more science than the original games ever, really. I mean, sure, you can read some documents in the Red and Evil Games that, you know, they throw in there about absolute stuff, but it's, it is, it's more believable science than the Resident Evil Games actually ever. And this is something that we were talking about before the show.

00;28;55;18 - 00;29;07;19

Speaker 2

But I feel like Steve Perry understands Resident Evil better than some of the people who have made Resident Evil games. Understand it.

00;29;07;22 - 00;29;08;09

Phil

Without.

00;29;08;26 - 00;29;44;22

Speaker 2

Yes, because she understands the she she's a very good science fiction writer. She has the bona fides as a science fiction writer. And she is she's very good at understanding why it's effective. Yeah. And I think as you play the Resident Evil Games, you start to see some some dancing around the concepts of why it's effective. And you said last week you're talking about Resident Evil five and how it's it's just it's super dumb.

00;29;45;05 - 00;29;53;21

Speaker 2

Yeah. Resident Evil Six is going to be more of that dumb Resident Evil 44 as praise that as it is, is the is a lot of the introduction of that dumb.

00;29;53;21 - 00;29;54;02

Phil

Yeah.

00;29;54;19 - 00;30;18;22

Speaker 2

And Resident Evil one, two and three. They have that underlying camp to them. Oh. Because but there's like a there's like a meth it's they are methodical and they kind of take it at a pace that's just not run, run, run, run, run let's let's stay and observe the horror a little bit rather than run through the horror.

00;30;19;04 - 00;30;19;17

Phil

Yeah.

00;30;19;24 - 00;30;28;29

Speaker 2

Which is so I feel like Steve Perry, I feel like Caliban Cove would have made an amazing Resident Evil game so far.

00;30;29;00 - 00;30;45;18

Phil

It, it so far absolutely. Like this this I kept thinking about that in terms of how this could be a game. Like you just need to insert a few more puzzles so far. But yeah, yeah, this would so far so good. This is going to end. And we haven't even gotten into the best parts of this section yet.

00;30;45;22 - 00;31;13;09

Speaker 2

No, no. Yeah, it gets better from here. The other thing that, that, that popped up into my head is that this would actually make for the way this is kind of set up wouldn't be awesome if there was an x com style zombie oh. Strike Force type of game that where you were, you were controlling like a Starz type, like a resonant, evil XCOM style game.

00;31;13;23 - 00;31;18;21

Phil

A Resident Evil themed XCOM game. I would play the shit out of that. That would be cool.

00;31;19;00 - 00;31;21;05

Speaker 2

Right? Wouldn't that be awesome? Where it's like you.

00;31;21;05 - 00;31;38;28

Phil

Wouldn't even have to do too. I mean, there is a whole thing with the most recent XCOM where you've got kind of alien zombies coming at you, and those are some of the most satisfying levels to play, you know, headshot, headshot, headshot. It's so much fun to do something similar that that would be a lot of fun.

00;31;39;19 - 00;32;00;21

Speaker 2

You have the zombies, you have the hunters. It's like the first one is like the Spencer Mansion or something like that. Yeah, that would be so cool. So, so somebody out there with connections to both Capcom and and Fear Axis just kind of like make that happen.

00;32;00;25 - 00;32;03;19

Phil

If you could, you could just get on that list. Thank you.

00;32;04;11 - 00;32;19;05

Speaker 2

If you could get, what's his name? Jake Solomon on the phone with whoever whoever is owning the, the, the IP over at cap com these days, you know, just get them on the phone, get them talking to each other.

00;32;19;05 - 00;32;21;23

Phil

Quick chat. Good jab. Yeah, yeah. Pressure.

00;32;21;24 - 00;32;24;27

Speaker 2

No big bang, bang, bang.

00;32;27;06 - 00;32;51;02

Speaker 2

So they, they, they continue uh, they continue like basically getting ready. Yeah. There is not as much of a gear porn scene in this one as there was in the first book. They actually make a decision to not bring a lot of weapons with them because this is supposed to be just an infiltration mission, not a actual combat mission.

00;32;51;10 - 00;32;59;24

Phil

Yeah. They're not seeing this as being yeah. They're not coming in to knock the door down and riddle everyone full of bullets. It's kind of a recon sort of situation.

00;32;59;24 - 00;33;09;09

Speaker 2

They're supposed to just be getting in and grabbing evidence of umbrella's malfeasance and getting out right so that's the idea. That's the concept, yeah.

00;33;10;09 - 00;33;12;08

Phil

And that's I'm sure that'll go just fine.

00;33;12;29 - 00;33;14;01

Speaker 2

I'm sure that'll go great.

00;33;14;03 - 00;33;17;01

Phil

Yeah. Exactly what's gonna happen.

00;33;18;14 - 00;33;37;01

Speaker 2

We also get a little bit of a little bit of character for Karen, who is the other woman on the team. Rebecca and her have a moment where where Rebecca finds Karen looking at a frag fragmentation grenade, a pineapple.

00;33;37;13 - 00;33;37;23

Phil

From.

00;33;37;23 - 00;33;43;27

Speaker 2

World War Two, and it's, it's basically like her good luck charm.

00;33;44;05 - 00;33;57;29

Phil

Which is, which is the most resonant, evil thing in this book so far. Like, that's a suit. Like, I keep this old World War Two grenade with me just as a good luck charm. You know, I was like, oh, OK.

00;33;58;15 - 00;34;12;10

Speaker 2

OK, sure. It's Super Resident Evil there. But she's very certain. Like, even though the grenade is live, she's like she's like, I don't even think you can get the pin out. I like I think the pin is is basically stuck in there.

00;34;12;10 - 00;34;15;14

Phil

Right, right. Well, we'll see.

00;34;16;15 - 00;34;17;24

Speaker 2

I don't know. I don't like that's.

00;34;17;24 - 00;34;18;22

Phil

Going to come up later.

00;34;19;11 - 00;34;22;07

Speaker 2

I feel like that might come up later. Right. Wouldn't you say?

00;34;22;13 - 00;34;25;03

Phil

Wouldn't you think it's a it's I think it's in a.

00;34;25;03 - 00;34;27;17

Speaker 2

Reference to me like it might it might come in handy.

00;34;27;25 - 00;34;28;03

Phil

Yeah.

00;34;28;09 - 00;34;31;17

Speaker 2

Yeah. Somebody forgive Rebecca. Karen, says.

00;34;32;09 - 00;34;38;09

Phil

You introduce a pineapple grenade in the in the beginning of the book and it has to go off by the end.

00;34;39;02 - 00;34;45;09

Speaker 2

And it has to go up in Chekhov's grenade. Chekhov is getting a lot of work tonight.

00;34;46;08 - 00;34;46;21

Phil

Yes.

00;34;46;28 - 00;35;00;07

Speaker 2

And to pay for all that work that we are throwing Chekhov's way, we're going to throw to our very first sponsor today. So enjoy this this this message from our sponsors.

00;35;04;03 - 00;35;14;18

Phil

Tonight's broadcast is brought to you by Janeiro's new delicious recycled Crest Pizza The pizza is garbage, good garbage.

00;35;15;08 - 00;35;24;13

Speaker 2

Each All right, and we're back, um, from that very real message from our sponsor.

00;35;24;25 - 00;35;25;05

Phil

Please.

00;35;25;18 - 00;35;28;10

Speaker 2

Please. I'm not even sure which sponsor it is.

00;35;28;23 - 00;35;34;13

Phil

Either, but we have. Well, we got so many sponsors all at once. Kevin, I'm not sure if we're meant to remember all of them.

00;35;34;13 - 00;35;40;27

Speaker 2

I'm not. Yeah. By their services. And or products. Please, please, please, please.

00;35;42;13 - 00;35;43;20

Phil

So, please.

00;35;45;22 - 00;36;18;17

Speaker 2

We move on to chapter seven. And this is the approach. They are. They're in the rafts. It's the raft has an underwater motor, which they operate a bit more silent than your typical motor. So you can just putt-putt around the cove and get to the point that you need to be need to be out. So they they're out in the water and they're looking they're David's looking through night vision goggles.

00;36;18;17 - 00;36;39;29

Speaker 2

He's like, I see some people see a fence. He's just basically just just listing off what he sees. And then the draft gets fucking blown, knocked right out of the air, into the air, out of the water, into the air. And everybody is scattered. Yes. Who to who was who saw that coming?

00;36;40;08 - 00;36;48;22

Phil

Yeah. Who'd have thunk it? The, the, the vehicle that's bringing us here is going to get exploded. Who would have thought that would happen?

00;36;48;22 - 00;37;11;25

Speaker 2

Who thought that would happen? So in the earlier chapter, Dr. Nick was talking about something called a Leviathan and how he had been working on the blood work for the leviathans. And I feel like that this is the Leviathan that he was referring to. It might be. Yeah, it might be. It's it's it's a giant monster. What is it?

00;37;12;00 - 00;37;13;16

Speaker 2

What is it? What is it?

00;37;13;26 - 00;37;36;20

Phil

It's a catfish. It's so it's a catfish. It's a bottom feeder. Like, they never say that they refer to the fish as being this bottom feeding fish. And when it exposes its belly, it's got this like this. This just this curled fake smile or frown or whatever full of, like, pig like teeth. It's that sounds like a that's called catfish.

00;37;36;20 - 00;37;42;07

Speaker 2

It is a big, massive fish. It is the largest catfish that you've ever done seen. Yeah.

00;37;42;19 - 00;37;43;29

Phil

It was this big.

00;37;44;15 - 00;37;46;07

Speaker 2

It was this big. Yeah.

00;37;47;20 - 00;38;21;20

Phil

So I love this, by the way. I'm such an aquatic horror nerd. And the thing. Yeah, I will say for Resident Evil, through all its highs and lows, they love putting in aquatic bad guys and they're always my favorite. But Reggie will find what I was bitching about that game last episode. I will say it was so on Rails and kind of stupid but one of the fights was on you're on this big ass ship and there's this horrible Leviathan whale monster following your ship.

00;38;21;25 - 00;38;24;06

Phil

And I was like, OK, this is pretty goddamn fun. OK.

00;38;24;14 - 00;38;27;23

Speaker 2

That was fun. Was that when the hot lady injects herself with the stuff?

00;38;28;05 - 00;38;29;13

Phil

Yeah, that's the one. That's the one.

00;38;29;13 - 00;38;44;22

Speaker 2

And it's like she's like, oh, and, and it basically she doesn't she loses control like. Yeah, like, it was like and the guy is like, woops, I guess it doesn't like you. And she, like, basically gets ripped apart and turned into a giant monster.

00;38;44;22 - 00;39;05;24

Phil

Which is just a recurring theme in, in the Resident Evil franchise. Like, I'm, I'm cornered. I'm going to inject myself with this virus. I really don't know very much about. Oh, no. Who could have guessed that this would have happened? Most people. Most people, most people. Most people to most people. Yeah. So I like this monster. I love this scene.

00;39;05;24 - 00;39;07;09

Phil

And we don't get much of it. We really.

00;39;07;09 - 00;39;34;08

Speaker 2

Don't. We don't know it basically. It just makes a big splash and it does its job. It really fucks up their plans. They get tossed from the boat and they, they all end up scattered and they make it to shore. There's a moment there where they think John might have gotten consumed by the giant by the giant catfish, but he, he makes it out, but they get to shore and they they regroup.

00;39;34;14 - 00;39;38;14

Speaker 2

And it turns out that most of them have lost their flashlights at this point.

00;39;39;03 - 00;39;41;05

Phil

That's the only thing to you notice.

00;39;41;14 - 00;39;47;13

Speaker 2

Yeah. It's weird that they lost that. It's like I lost my flashlight. Like, how did everybody lose that? Only their flashlight.

00;39;47;21 - 00;40;04;15

Phil

He's like, OK, report. How's your health? How's your gun? How your bullets and how's your flashlight? And basically we go through everyone go on. I'm fine. My guns find my bullets are fine. No flashlight, though. And I think one person in the whole team retains their flashlight.

00;40;04;15 - 00;40;35;07

Speaker 2

So, yeah, it's like one or two people have a flashlight and that's it. I think David and Rebecca have their flashlights. So they basically get up, they get their got knocked to shore and then they drag themselves up to the the boathouse and they they find a dead body nailed to a door. And it's like arm is like up nailed in an upward position, as if like waving.

00;40;36;29 - 00;40;45;04

Speaker 2

And nearby, they find a note that had been sent out. It was from and they realize that this is Doctor Ammon.

00;40;45;08 - 00;40;45;19

Phil

Yes.

00;40;45;19 - 00;41;08;20

Speaker 2

And this is the first clue basically Trent had referenced Dr. Ammon's message received this. And they find basically a printout of the the the message that Ammon had sent Trent yeah. But yeah, this this body, there's a lot of good body horror that gets out of this this little prop of a body, this smell.

00;41;09;00 - 00;41;33;27

Phil

Yes. The door oh, yeah. It's pretty repulsive. It's well written. And and it kind of introduces, I think, where Steve Perry is improving on the first book we talked about in the first book where, you know, she was working with the first game. And so we've got puzzles set up for us but it's not always all that interesting to describe those in a book form.

00;41;35;06 - 00;41;58;16

Phil

And so she did she did the best she could with that and with this one, instead of sitting a whole bunch of puzzles, we have this one. If you remember from last episode, we have this one note that has a string of clues or esoteric remarks like, you know, Ammon's message and these things that are clearly clues to help them guide them along the way.

00;41;58;25 - 00;42;08;08

Phil

And so this one, it all comes from one clue. And clearly it's going to guide us through the rest of the adventure. I think it's a pretty smart way to do it with a novel. Yeah.

00;42;08;15 - 00;42;27;06

Speaker 2

So the note, the note says July 20th food was drugged. I'm sick. I hid the material for you, sent data, boats are sunk and he let the he let the tri squads out dark. Now they'll come. I think he killed the rest. Stop him. God knows what he needs to do. Destroy the lab, find Christa. Tell her. Tell her.

00;42;27;06 - 00;42;58;17

Speaker 2

I'm sorry, Lyles. Sorry. I wish there was nothing more. And then Ammon's message, Karen said softly, LYLE And so they put it together that this is Lyle Ammon. This is basically what what's left of Lyle Ammon. Yeah. And they're like, All right, well, let's move out. And they we end chapter seven with gunfire. They're either being fired upon, fired their positions being fired upon.

00;42;59;01 - 00;43;25;20

Speaker 2

And we jump right into chapter eight. Basically there there's just automatic gunfire coming from every direction. And one of the best things about this is that there these bullets are tearing through the door of the boathouse where the body of Lyle am. And they say yeah. And there's some good descriptive moments about what's happening to the body. Yes.

00;43;26;03 - 00;43;29;00

Speaker 2

As the bullets are tearing through absolute.

00;43;29;00 - 00;43;31;03

Phil

Oh, yeah. It's like he's dancing in shit.

00;43;31;03 - 00;43;36;00

Speaker 2

It's he's like dancing the head caves in like a watermelon or some things like that.

00;43;36;10 - 00;43;58;04

Phil

It made me think of one of the earlier scenes in Total Recall where Arnold Schwarzenegger is just found out he's being chased by the baddies and everybody for the first time. And one of the they're on the escalator. And the one guy gets shot. And so he uses the guy's body as a bullet shield, and he's just doing like just holding this innocent civilian up.

00;43;59;18 - 00;44;02;20

Phil

It's it. I couldn't stop thinking about that moment.

00;44;02;28 - 00;44;32;04

Speaker 2

Oh, God. So so basically, they're they're like Steve is yelling out, why won't they die? Rebecca kind of puts two and two together that these the the the gunfire is coming from zombies. And she she gives them the. You got it. You got to shoot him in the head. Bit of information. But yeah, it's like I realize now that she is she's just surprised she might have told them that you have to shoot zombies in the head.

00;44;32;14 - 00;44;36;09

Speaker 2

I think she just didn't realize that the zombies would have guns this time.

00;44;36;23 - 00;44;44;11

Phil

That's fair. That's totally fair. The rest of us had to wait, you know, several games before the zombies had guns.

00;44;44;11 - 00;45;09;16

Speaker 2

So this time it's, it's, it's the zombies have guns. Yeah. And we were talking about this before the show, but you were saying that a lot of times when zombies have guns, it feels kind of dumb. And unearned, but this is fine. Yeah, I am fine with this. And you are, too, right?

00;45;09;16 - 00;45;44;24

Phil

That's. Yes, I think because there hasn't been a ton of precedent set, like, for example, in Resident Evil, it started to annoy me when in the fourth game, the zombie was the infected, if you will. We're throwing axes and the AK, right. Or something like have a chainsaw. Right? I was like, OK, fine. And then when five came around and they had actual guns and dynamite and stuff like that, that's when I was just like, OK, this is getting really stupid.

00;45;45;01 - 00;46;06;25

Phil

What's the point? What what is separating this from just a military shooter? Right. It's kind of the same, except every now and then you you had shot one of them in a horrible centipede thing flies out, which. Sure. All right, fine. Fine. But with this, we haven't had, so we're dealing with something different. And that's you know, and I know we're dealing with something different in the games, too.

00;46;07;04 - 00;46;12;20

Phil

I don't know there's something about this that's just handled in a better fashion to my tastes. Yeah.

00;46;12;27 - 00;46;43;17

Speaker 2

I think because there's and there's also some good explanation as to why they're very clearly still zombies, but they it's already it's already been set up that this guy has modified the T virus, like to to basically fix the aggression aspect and just make them super pliable and he also says like they don't in one of the other chapters, Dr. Nick says they don't last long.

00;46;43;29 - 00;46;58;28

Speaker 2

But no, the try squad's zombies only last a couple of weeks of service before they basically fall apart. Yeah. But they will just do the take carry out their orders without question. That's kind of there. And they're really hard to kill.

00;46;59;09 - 00;47;08;26

Phil

Yeah. Yeah. So it's just a different I don't know, it has a different feel. It has a different angle. In this one. So yeah, it's interesting.

00;47;09;16 - 00;47;36;06

Speaker 2

Yeah. So they they basically fight their way in, scramble their way through and get into the facility and lock the door behind them. They and, and one of one of them is shot. Steve is shot, but his vest catches it. But he's, he's, he's got a big old bruise now on his chest. And Rebecca gets to make him take his shirt off oh.

00;47;36;21 - 00;47;50;09

Phil

What a adorable moment. She's just she's like, you're fine. I just I was just checking because you fine. You don't have to put on the shirt again if you don't want it where you can. It's adorable.

00;47;50;21 - 00;48;21;27

Speaker 2

It's adorable. And they kind of just they kind of just do a recap of like, all right, well, what does this actually mean? OK, the zombies have guns. Now, that was not expected. And there was clearly some sort of spill or whatever here. Like people where the the people on this island are zombified and they they end up taking kind of like a straw poll in this moment where it's like, all right, well, what do we do?

00;48;22;04 - 00;48;30;27

Speaker 2

Do we just like David's initial idea when they first get fired upon or before they start getting fired upon is like, all right, let's bounce.

00;48;30;27 - 00;48;31;13

Phil

Like, yeah.

00;48;31;22 - 00;48;38;20

Speaker 2

Yeah. We Oh, yeah. It this is like the smartest idea ever in a Resident Evil Game.

00;48;38;20 - 00;48;41;29

Phil

Immediately. He's just like, yeah, we're going. We're done. Like.

00;48;42;07 - 00;48;44;06

Speaker 2

We're doing like mission calling.

00;48;44;06 - 00;48;51;16

Phil

The mission cancels out the supposed to go. We're gone. It's it's kind of great, actually.

00;48;51;20 - 00;48;56;12

Speaker 2

It's very refreshing. That immediately he's like calling it Let's go home.

00;48;56;23 - 00;49;08;27

Phil

Right? And it's not even and it's not even like him arguing with people and going and I losing my mind. We should leave like, framed in a way that he's the coward or something. It's just kind of like, this is not the question. No. Yeah. This isn't the mission.

00;49;08;27 - 00;49;17;27

Speaker 2

The captain is like, this is like we we set up the mission in these parameters. Those parameters don't exist. So we're going. It's done.

00;49;18;07 - 00;49;21;05

Phil

It's done. We'll come back with bazookas. I don't know what to tell you.

00;49;21;05 - 00;49;29;12

Speaker 2

This is it. We'll come back with some flamethrowers and will will will deal with it then. But yeah, it's with.

00;49;29;13 - 00;49;30;18

Phil

These fucking idiots.

00;49;31;22 - 00;49;40;12

Speaker 2

So anyway, they get, they get chased into another building and now they're trapped on Galban Cove because they gave zombies guns. They were expecting that.

00;49;40;29 - 00;49;42;22

Phil

It is, it is what tends to happen.

00;49;43;06 - 00;50;05;04

Speaker 2

So they, they do a quick straw poll and they go, well, what do you guys want to do? Like, we're here now. What, what's the goal? Do we try to escape or and they basically all decide like, no, I mean, now we let's just see this through because we're here. We're trapped by zombies with guns and you know, let's, let's fuck around and find out why not.

00;50;05;04 - 00;50;21;25

Phil

What choice do we have at this point? At that point? Because at that point, they, they, they really are kind of like, you know, cornered. So it's like, well, what do you want us to do? We don't have a boat. You know, we're kind of we are actually kind of screwed here, so.

00;50;22;09 - 00;50;37;20

Speaker 2

Yeah, yeah. So they we jump back to Doctor Neck and Doctor Nick has pretty basically had basically shut himself off from the concept that anybody was coming to deal with him.

00;50;37;25 - 00;50;38;16

Phil

Yes.

00;50;39;02 - 00;50;49;10

Speaker 2

Right now he thinks it's and it's an invasion of and brella but he. Oh, I thought I lost your for a second. Yeah.

00;50;49;25 - 00;50;50;26

Phil

Stop there for a second.

00;50;50;26 - 00;51;21;01

Speaker 2

I it's basically he thought that you know, if they haven't come, they're not going to come. He thought like slam and never got the message out and he was content to just the next day launch out his, his thing. And he, he the only reason he finds out that there is somebody in the base is because he went down to check on he was going to euthanize the hunters right.

00;51;21;05 - 00;51;36;28

Speaker 2

And rides while he's in the process of getting ready to do that that's when he hears the commotion basically of of somebody else in the base and had he not gone to check on the hunters he would not have known somebody else was there.

00;51;37;06 - 00;51;46;11

Phil

Because he's actually concerned about the quality of life of the hunters. He's like, they don't really get out there right they just we really should. It's just it's kinder to euthanize them.

00;51;46;21 - 00;51;53;06

Speaker 2

It's later to euthanize them. And who is going to let them out of their cages after I release the thing right?

00;51;53;27 - 00;51;54;29

Phil

So unfair.

00;51;55;06 - 00;51;58;17

Speaker 2

It's it's unfair. It's really weird, guy.

00;51;58;25 - 00;52;02;28

Phil

He's he's he's got interesting priorities. Let's say interesting.

00;52;02;28 - 00;52;03;19

Speaker 2

Priority.

00;52;08;17 - 00;52;33;11

Speaker 2

So now he's basically he's he's just like. All right, well, you know, you guys want you guys want the the smoke. Here we go. Here's here's you. He's going to he's going to engage with these dudes. He's not able to fight them toe to toe because he's just a weak little baby scientist, man.

00;52;33;12 - 00;52;37;27

Phil

No, he didn't he didn't spec in in a lot of combat skills.

00;52;37;27 - 00;52;42;19

Speaker 2

So he really is. He's he's he rolls with disadvantage on strength rolls.

00;52;42;20 - 00;52;52;09

Phil

Right. Right. But but on surgery and viruses against guard and man or all else.

00;52;52;19 - 00;52;56;05

Speaker 2

Rolling with an advantage. Yeah. He's like a plus ten. So he's going.

00;52;56;05 - 00;52;56;21

Phil

To act like.

00;52;57;05 - 00;52;59;20

Speaker 2

He's going to pass your check on. Yeah.

00;52;59;29 - 00;53;01;04

Phil

He's just going to go ahead.

00;53;01;06 - 00;53;06;01

Speaker 2

And it's actually not even a roll. It's a lesson. It's a legendary action right now.

00;53;06;07 - 00;53;08;00

Phil

Just does it. You're just.

00;53;08;00 - 00;53;08;14

Speaker 2

Does it.

00;53;08;21 - 00;53;08;27

Phil

Yeah.

00;53;11;15 - 00;53;15;09

Phil

He's a good villain. Is a good villain. He's really fucking weird.

00;53;15;10 - 00;53;26;19

Speaker 2

It's good villain. He he get he has wild mood swings going from from very nervous and scared to super angry. Right?

00;53;27;05 - 00;53;29;04

Phil

Because he experienced it first.

00;53;29;11 - 00;53;30;24

Speaker 2

He thinks they're umbrella at first.

00;53;30;27 - 00;53;46;07

Phil

He thinks they're umbrella and he starts losing his shit and he basically tears up a computer. Yeah. Because, yeah, like you said, he didn't he'd be basically given up on the idea that I was going to interrupt him. And then we realized it is an umbrella. He goes, oh, this is going to be a great deal of fun.

00;53;46;07 - 00;53;52;24

Phil

I shouldn't have let myself fly off the handle like that. Let's kill us. Some policemen, basically.

00;53;52;24 - 00;54;09;15

Speaker 2

And during this and during all this, he's squeezing his fists so hard that his fingernails are slicing into his palms. Yeah. And his hands are bleeding like some sort of perverted stigmata that he's giving himself.

00;54;09;17 - 00;54;10;09

Phil

Science.

00;54;10;14 - 00;54;30;26

Speaker 2

Because he does view himself a little bit like a Christ like figure. I mean, this might be I mean, I gave you a lot of credit. This might be giving her a little too much credit on the on the whole religious aspect of it. But he, like, views himself as creating a new world. He's like squeezing until his hands are bleeding.

00;54;30;28 - 00;54;33;18

Speaker 2

Right. So it's a feel like.

00;54;33;22 - 00;54;35;10

Phil

A religious allegory.

00;54;35;10 - 00;54;40;17

Speaker 2

I think there's some religious allegory, overtones, there, too. Doctor Nix character.

00;54;40;17 - 00;54;51;07

Phil

Oh, very much so. Very much so. He sees himself as changing the world in a very big way. So yeah, I don't think that's too much to suggest, to be completely honest.

00;54;51;20 - 00;54;57;28

Speaker 2

So that's the that's the end of our section for tonight. Yeah. You're liking it. So far, though.

00;54;57;28 - 00;55;02;21

Phil

I'm I'm really enjoying it. Yeah. This is way better than the first one.

00;55;03;01 - 00;55;36;22

Speaker 2

It's way better than the first one. And we liked the first one. Right. But it's one of those instances where you're like, you look at what some of the writers have to go through when they're writing, when it's they're writing on a contract. Act for, you know, these video game adaptations. And Steve Perry got the she got the chance to basically shape a resonant, evil world in her own image because I feel like I think every other book in the series is her own creation.

00;55;37;21 - 00;55;47;21

Phil

No, no. They do have they do have other ones that are based on the next one is based on two, and then fourth is another one of her own. And I think the I think there's one.

00;55;47;21 - 00;55;50;23

Speaker 2

OK, five and six. Five and six are games.

00;55;50;25 - 00;55;51;09

Phil

Yeah.

00;55;52;13 - 00;55;53;15

Speaker 2

And then I'll go any.

00;55;53;16 - 00;55;55;16

Phil

Further than Resident Evil three, though.

00;55;57;10 - 00;56;14;29

Speaker 2

Yeah. There's there's three code Veronica and Zero, you all have adaptations. But OK, so she did she did two of her own. And that was Underworld, which looks like actually I'm not sure which one is, is Resident Evil too.

00;56;15;08 - 00;56;17;15

Phil

It's the next it's rising.

00;56;17;17 - 00;56;18;19

Speaker 2

It's Volume three.

00;56;19;13 - 00;56;46;01

Phil

Three is based on reason to be able to. That's yeah. If we could make it more confusing. If we could make it more confusing but yeah. Yeah, it's I mean once again, it proves the rule that we are finding steadily that with these writers the best parts of the book, if not the entire book, tends to be when you let the writers play in the world and actually not do a one to one adaptation.

00;56;46;21 - 00;56;47;27

Speaker 2

Let them off the leash a little bit.

00;56;48;01 - 00;56;56;03

Phil

Absolutely. Which shouldn't be too big of a surprise. But it just it has it has never not been true. Right.

00;56;56;03 - 00;57;02;00

Speaker 2

With the exception of the dead space books. And we don't know the circumstances of the dead space books, but.

00;57;02;04 - 00;57;04;01

Phil

There's that one is still shrouded in mystery.

00;57;04;01 - 00;57;11;17

Speaker 2

It's worse it's that shrouded in mystery. But that seems to be a pretty whole cloth. You know, that wasn't one of the games.

00;57;11;17 - 00;57;30;15

Phil

So that's a very good point, actually. Yes. That that is a big exception to that rule. That's a very good point. Yeah. But yeah, other than that, yeah, letting letting the author have a little fun with it seems to be the name of the game. And this is a great example of it. We're halfway through and I'm I'm tearing through it.

00;57;30;15 - 00;57;32;12

Phil

I'm really enjoying this. Yeah.

00;57;32;19 - 00;57;42;08

Speaker 2

Yeah, me too. So now on to our, our new segment that we've been doing for a few weeks now. What do you play and.

00;57;42;15 - 00;57;51;05

Phil

Oh, I like this part. This is, this is, this makes me think of old days when we tried to do a podcast that was just, frankly.

00;57;51;05 - 00;57;52;14

Speaker 2

Just talking about video games.

00;57;52;14 - 00;58;15;17

Phil

Yeah. You know, like every other white man in America. Yep. And we didn't find our niche, but I like, I like adding this. This is fun. This is fun. Yeah. I'm playing. I just this week, I played a couple of games. I played Iron Lung. Yeah, I've seen you watched you watched the Let's Play that, didn't you?

00;58;15;18 - 00;58;19;19

Speaker 2

Or I watched I watched John Wolfe's Let's Play of It.

00;58;19;19 - 00;58;31;23

Phil

Yeah, I loved it. I had it's that one. Was it? Yeah, I played that one. I played a game called V Rising, and they're both horror adjacent. Yeah.

00;58;31;26 - 00;58;36;14

Speaker 2

R V Rising. Is that like is that what is V rising? Is it like a MOBA or.

00;58;36;15 - 00;58;43;13

Phil

It's a it's a Diablo slash Diablo clone slash survival game.

00;58;44;00 - 00;58;44;18

Speaker 2

Okay.

00;58;44;25 - 00;59;13;18

Phil

It's a vampire game. You're playing a vampire like from this ancient cohort that years ago, man rose up and force them underground. And now you are out of your tomb and your you make your vampire, which is super fun. And then you literally go out and chop trees and break up stones and it's the same fucking thing. And it's a shame because I'm done with those games.

00;59;13;18 - 00;59;23;27

Phil

I'm so sick of them. Yeah. I need a really new angle for me to give a shit. Yeah. I will admit that the vampire angle is at least the interesting like that got.

00;59;23;27 - 00;59;26;09

Speaker 2

You in the door. But it's not keeping you there.

00;59;26;17 - 00;59;47;21

Phil

It's not the it's like it's way more combat centric and it's a Diablo clone. It's got that style of combat, which can be fun and engaging. I'm going to give it a little more time, but at this point, I'd just be personally those kind of games. I'm just I'm sick of it. But but Iron Lung was I played that one.

00;59;47;21 - 00;59;55;11

Phil

That's an indie horror title. Things like five bucks on Steam takes about a year to play. Maybe an hour and a half.

00;59;55;13 - 01;00;05;00

Speaker 2

Yeah, it's by it's by it's by David Zamansky, who is also the creator of Dusk Yes. And what is one of the main.

01;00;05;02 - 01;00;06;12

Phil

I didn't know anything about that one.

01;00;06;20 - 01;00;15;00

Speaker 2

Yeah. Yeah, I played Dusk. Dusk is really good. Dusk is so it's it's I hate this term, but it's a boomer shooter.

01;00;16;04 - 01;00;16;28

Phil

Oh, OK.

01;00;18;11 - 01;00;30;14

Speaker 2

So Boomer shooters are basically for those who don't know it's the genre of first person shooters that are a throwback to the early to mid nineties style of shooter.

01;00;30;20 - 01;00;31;15

Phil

Style, which were.

01;00;31;15 - 01;00;40;05

Speaker 2

Very fast paced. Yeah. So dusk is is basically it's a quake. Like I like to I like to say.

01;00;40;09 - 01;00;42;24

Phil

See, you said quake like and that I mean.

01;00;42;25 - 01;00;43;11

Speaker 2

Yeah, it's.

01;00;43;11 - 01;00;43;26

Phil

It's, it's.

01;00;43;27 - 01;01;21;19

Speaker 2

Very sure. Yeah, it's boomer shooter doesn't tell you anything. It's very much like quake, quake or doom. Or somewhere in between. And it's it's kind of new blood's bread and butter is is these types of games. They have another one called ultra kill which is very it's super fast paced and it's mixed. Ultra kill is like if you took quake doom eternal like some of the traversal of doom eternal and added a scoring system on to it like devil may cry.

01;01;22;23 - 01;01;34;11

Speaker 2

So you know how those those devil may cry games or the platinum games where it's like it has like it'll it'll have like a letter ranking for how stylishly you kill the monsters.

01;01;34;15 - 01;01;34;25

Phil

Yeah.

01;01;35;00 - 01;01;45;10

Speaker 2

Ultra kill has something like that, OK? Whereas like it'll be like be a s and like as you do more cool things as you're shooting your way through.

01;01;45;17 - 01;02;13;02

Phil

That's fascinating to me because based on what you're describing, iron lung couldn't be any less like those games outside of kind of an older style like esthetic. Right. Basically in the game of for any was interested that that you are it's in the future you are on a planet where it is just an ocean of blood, literal human blood you are welded into a little submarine.

01;02;13;08 - 01;02;40;26

Phil

You have no visual, you know, you don't have you don't have a porthole or anything and you have to follow this map and follow the right coordinates and take pictures of these various points on the map and your only look at what's happening outside is through the pictures you take. And it's crazy atmospheric and really spooky. And even if it's only about an hour and a half long five bucks, I think is worth it for the experience.

01;02;41;13 - 01;02;44;29

Phil

It was super claustrophobic. Great horror game. I really enjoyed it.

01;02;45;09 - 01;03;07;15

Speaker 2

Yeah. Yeah. It's it's it was really fascinating to watch somebody play it. Yeah. And so, yeah, I can I can give the recommendation for for those looking to experience it themselves, you know, pick up five, pick up iron lung for whatever it is on steam fiber only. But if you want to watch it, watch somebody experience it second hand.

01;03;07;15 - 01;03;13;18

Speaker 2

If you're not if you're more of a second hand horror experiencer which is.

01;03;14;07 - 01;03;14;20

Phil

All of this.

01;03;14;20 - 01;03;29;16

Speaker 2

Thing, which is understandable. John Wolf who does a lot of plays, a lot of these indie horror games, he played it a few weeks ago and and yet a pretty good play through nice. So yeah but in terms.

01;03;29;16 - 01;03;29;20

Phil

Of.

01;03;30;10 - 01;03;35;24

Speaker 2

In terms of what I have been playing honestly this past week, it's just been back to Vamp for sure.

01;03;35;25 - 01;03;37;19

Phil

Phifer. Hell yes.

01;03;38;16 - 01;03;58;16

Speaker 2

I for some reason this week I was like I, I, it was weird. But I didn't feel like plugging my controller in. OK, it was just one of those I don't feel like I don't like get in the game the controller and the game, the other games that I've been playing recently are controller games, you know, your, your death stranding and the like.

01;03;58;26 - 01;04;05;21

Speaker 2

So I was like, all right, well what can I play with my mouse and keyboard? And I was like, Oh yeah, vampires drivers. That just requires my keyboard.

01;04;06;07 - 01;04;09;21

Phil

Yeah, yeah. One hand like it's yeah.

01;04;10;04 - 01;04;25;25

Speaker 2

Is like it's like I'm playing that with one hand and with my mouse, I'm like reading something, scrolling through so yeah, I've been playing vampire survivors. I got, I got a bunch more unlocks. I finally got a kill death.

01;04;26;16 - 01;04;28;06

Phil

Nice. Oh, I a.

01;04;28;12 - 01;04;58;18

Speaker 2

Used I used your method for killing death, which apparently is like there's like three or four methods. OK, but I did the one that you did, which was like you upgrade the laurel and the the time the time. Lance also I got the something else that happened that helped is the random auto cards. I got one that does damage any time.

01;04;58;18 - 01;04;59;26

Speaker 2

Time is frozen.

01;05;00;18 - 01;05;02;27

Phil

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I got so.

01;05;02;27 - 01;05;31;02

Speaker 2

I had that. So I had that one going. And so so when you had the time cannon going, it's going in like clockwise, right? It's shooting these beams clockwise. And if you have it go in like full speed or whatever, it's going to use juice. Juice and like it does so much damage with that card in play that I was just like I was sitting there with like 7 minutes left just waiting for death to show up because nothing could touch me.

01;05;31;04 - 01;05;34;03

Phil

Right, right. You have nothing to do but sit there.

01;05;35;15 - 01;05;37;09

Speaker 2

And it's like my kill counter is just going.

01;05;38;20 - 01;05;58;26

Phil

Like that. I love it. I just like when we were taught, we we both played a loop hero. We both really like to loop hero. And yeah, when I did a review of that earlier this year, I got somebody who replied to it and it was just like, this is not a game. This is bullshit. You're just like, you're just sitting there and watching it and then everything like that.

01;05;59;04 - 01;06;08;28

Phil

And I had to admit on a certain level, with Loop Zero, we had a point like there is there is certain there's a little bit of strategy can do with Loop Arrow, but mostly, yeah.

01;06;08;28 - 01;06;12;17

Speaker 2

It's the placement of the tiles, right? Is the strategy base right?

01;06;12;23 - 01;06;33;06

Phil

Yeah, exactly. And now with this one though, there is there is some level of strategy up to a point at first to get to the point where you are just a guy, a god that no one can touch. You have to be kind of quick on the draw with what you choose, the weapons you choose, and just generally how you move and everything.

01;06;33;06 - 01;06;33;19

Phil

Right.

01;06;33;27 - 01;06;35;12

Speaker 2

You know what you have to go for.

01;06;35;21 - 01;06;39;29

Phil

It never ends where you're just like, I just I'm just going to put this down for a little bit and we're going I'm.

01;06;39;29 - 01;06;47;00

Speaker 2

Going to go to the bathroom and. Right. And get myself something to drink. I trust that this will still be killing things when I get back.

01;06;47;07 - 01;06;47;29

Phil

And it is.

01;06;48;03 - 01;06;49;00

Speaker 2

Is it is.

01;06;49;19 - 01;06;51;14

Phil

That I'm I was.

01;06;51;17 - 01;07;00;20

Speaker 2

Once I did that, I did I did end up getting killed because there was like a a boss that just like was able to walk right through it and shit on me.

01;07;01;01 - 01;07;07;14

Phil

Yeah. You got to wait. You got to look out for the boss sometimes. But yeah, yeah. I'm still loving, especially.

01;07;07;14 - 01;07;12;29

Speaker 2

In Gallo Tower, which was where I killed Death There's this crab.

01;07;13;27 - 01;07;14;13

Phil

The crab.

01;07;14;21 - 01;07;18;07

Speaker 2

Oh, the crab where the claws keep getting bigger.

01;07;18;11 - 01;07;18;25

Phil

Yep.

01;07;18;27 - 01;07;20;03

Speaker 2

Like, what is that?

01;07;20;03 - 01;07;27;03

Phil

I don't know what is going on. I just know eventually they both pop, and it's just the body of the crab.

01;07;27;03 - 01;07;28;21

Speaker 2

Well, then they start growing again.

01;07;28;21 - 01;07;36;18

Phil

Yeah, exactly. I don't. I don't know what the specifics are, but, yeah, I love that crab that I hate them at the same time because he's a pain in the ass.

01;07;37;02 - 01;07;38;04

Speaker 2

He is a pain in the ass.

01;07;38;04 - 01;08;01;05

Phil

Because I really do love the I love my what do you call it? Like the shield weapons. I love my Bible. I love the garlic. Those are become my favorites. The really kind of passive weapons. Yeah, those are become my favorites. And and that guy, it requires so much more if that's your style. Right?

01;08;01;25 - 01;08;08;19

Speaker 2

Because the Bible and the garlic don't do enough damage to kill him fast enough.

01;08;08;20 - 01;08;09;03

Phil

Yeah.

01;08;09;11 - 01;08;11;17

Speaker 2

It's it's got to have something else going for you.

01;08;11;25 - 01;08;16;10

Phil

Exactly. And it's the same as with the Guardians of the Rings and the.

01;08;16;17 - 01;08;17;06

Speaker 2

Oh, yeah.

01;08;17;11 - 01;08;37;28

Phil

Red Doohickeys that. Yeah. When we talked last, I told you, I had a ten achievements left on vampire survivors. I'm down to eight. Just I've made a bro. I I'm just. That's me. You give me a list, and I want to check all.

01;08;37;28 - 01;08;42;07

Speaker 2

I will check off that list. Absolutely. They check off again yeah.

01;08;42;07 - 01;08;42;19

Phil

Do you.

01;08;43;06 - 01;08;49;08

Speaker 2

Have you, uh, have you gotten a solar milo up to level 100 yet?

01;08;49;13 - 01;09;09;08

Phil

Not yet. I'm not looking forward to that one. I've played with him once. He's a very good boy. But the only, the only person I've played so far whose weapon is worse than his is the stupid guitarist with the pinion weapons. I hate that. It's. They're terrible. And the little flower farts from the dog are not much better.

01;09;09;19 - 01;09;11;09

Speaker 2

They are farts, right? It's.

01;09;11;09 - 01;09;12;26

Phil

I have to assume. Yeah.

01;09;13;06 - 01;09;30;01

Speaker 2

Yeah. The pinions and the farts are really hard to deal with. They're like, they're too they're two things, but, like, all right, if I'm going to play this character, I need to, like, I need to get up a few levels immediately and get a couple more weapons. Yeah.

01;09;30;19 - 01;09;43;12

Phil

I cannot rely on your your base weapon. Do not level up the pinions or so lamo his weapon until you've got, like, some garlic and some, you know, Bibles into something.

01;09;43;22 - 01;10;06;17

Speaker 2

Something a little bit defensive, because otherwise you're going to be in a lot of trouble, especially when depending on the level like minute five in, in the mad forest, for example, when you're suddenly surrounded by the plants. Yeah. Yeah. Because because the game is, has these different spawn points like at certain at a certain minute something will spawn.

01;10;06;26 - 01;10;19;01

Speaker 2

Yeah. And like on every level there will be a moment where, oh, it just spawned literally like 10,000 creatures on the screen. Yeah. You got to be able to cut through them.

01;10;19;01 - 01;10;40;24

Phil

You got it. Yeah. You got to have, you've got to, got to have a nice foundation of weapons. So yeah, I think, I think with the, with opinions and with the flower farts yeah. Upgrade it. Definitely upgrade it. But I would wait till like level ten till you buy. Yeah. Upgrading that one unless the other things you have to choose really suck.

01;10;41;12 - 01;10;46;11

Phil

Yeah. But like yeah, don't bother with those get, get some of the old traditional standbys.

01;10;46;11 - 01;10;55;19

Speaker 2

And what's funny is some of the weapons that are really sucky at the start end up leveling up and to the best the cats.

01;10;55;19 - 01;10;57;28

Phil

I like the cats now when they level up.

01;10;58;06 - 01;11;00;12

Speaker 2

When they live up there, they're really funny.

01;11;00;17 - 01;11;01;21

Phil

They're so much fun.

01;11;01;21 - 01;11;09;04

Speaker 2

Yes they they also said two things about the cats. One they will occasionally attack you.

01;11;09;15 - 01;11;09;29

Phil

Yes.

01;11;10;25 - 01;11;15;07

Speaker 2

And two, they will occasionally just randomly destroy an item on the screen.

01;11;15;29 - 01;11;17;15

Phil

Oh, I haven't noticed that.

01;11;17;15 - 01;11;24;20

Speaker 2

Oh so I noticed it once because I was going to go pick up one of the attract orbs to pull all the orbs.

01;11;24;23 - 01;11;25;28

Phil

The old the attract.

01;11;25;28 - 01;11;31;05

Speaker 2

And the cat just like walked by and went and killed it. And what kept going?

01;11;31;23 - 01;11;44;28

Phil

No, no, no, no, no. That's unacceptable. Those attract orbs are worth more than just about anything. Like, those things are so great. Oh, that sucks. I didn't know that. Oh, shit.

01;11;44;28 - 01;11;48;02

Speaker 2

Cats will destroy items on the screen. Rande I'm late.

01;11;48;13 - 01;12;02;16

Phil

I'm going. That's the thing. I'm. I think tomorrow with me and I'm only are going away for a few days and before we leave of the tribe level, when I was thinking of trying to level 100 the the witch with the cats. And now you say that like, oh, this is going to suck.

01;12;02;21 - 01;12;14;10

Speaker 2

It's a little bit harder than you think because if you got you can't because I'll let things sit. Yeah. Until I need them. Right. And with the cats, I realize like, oh, shit. You can't just let something.

01;12;14;11 - 01;12;15;17

Phil

Say with a cat.

01;12;15;28 - 01;12;20;23

Speaker 2

Can and it's like a real it's like, oh, they're actually like real cats. You just can't.

01;12;21;29 - 01;12;24;26

Phil

If they're great and then they destroy something. Yeah.

01;12;25;24 - 01;12;27;07

Speaker 2

Or they scratch you or bite you.

01;12;27;07 - 01;12;47;03

Phil

Well that too. Yeah, we, we, we've been Emily and I are moving at the end of next month, and so we're slowly, like, putting shit together and our, our cat really almost called our kitten. I mean, she's a year and a half old, so it's not a kitten anymore, but she's the little one, and she's the one who needs attention all the time.

01;12;47;10 - 01;13;04;15

Phil

And we were in my office here going through the closets and getting some stuff, deciding what to keep and what to go. And she's just watching us and chatting with us. Being really sweet and purring, and it was wonderful. We're like, Oh, this is nice. It's nice having our little Ripley to keep us company. She's a little sweetheart, aren't you, baby?

01;13;04;20 - 01;13;27;28

Phil

And as if on cue, she dove bombed this stack of role playing game books I have. And that knocked into another stack of books and just like this catastrophic God damned domino effect. And I'd like so once this is like being a cat owner, one second, we were like, what a sweet baby? Who's our sweet baby? And the next time we're like, out, you're out.

01;13;27;28 - 01;13;42;03

Phil

You're going outside, like, just, like, threw her out onto the screen porch. It's just, I mean, that's honestly so so I think vampire survivors as cats, they may be nailed. They got to figure it out. Yeah.

01;13;43;16 - 01;13;47;14

Speaker 2

They got it. The Gotti Amari, I believe they're called Gotti Amari.

01;13;47;14 - 01;13;50;17

Phil

That's exactly what it is. Yeah. Love them. Love them.

01;13;51;02 - 01;14;19;03

Phil

Punish people with us, use us to punish them. I don't use.

01;14;37;25 - 01;14;39;27

Speaker 2

This to punish people. That's fine. It gives us a rhythm.

01;14;39;27 - 01;14;41;07

Phil

Doesn't know the difference. Fuck it that.

01;14;41;08 - 01;14;47;24

Speaker 2

It doesn't know the difference at all. So yeah, we're OK being toward punishment.

01;14;48;03 - 01;14;50;08

Phil

Absolutely. In so many ways.

01;14;51;06 - 01;14;54;18

Speaker 2

Anyway, that'll do it for tonight. Have a good night, everybody.

01;14;54;28 - 01;14;55;13

Phil

Bye.

01;15;04;02 - 01;15;04;10

Phil

And.
